A MUST-READ Jim Ross Interview Discussing Austin, Vince, TNA, Punk, UFC, & Tons More

Cm punk quitting wwe featured Birthdate: 10/26/1978 (age 36) Height: 6'2" Weight: 218 Ib He was titled in the WWE as "the longest-reigni...

Jim Ross spoke with The Mirror promoting the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 9 show. Check out the highlights:

On Jeff Jarrett contacting him to work GFW: “Jeff made the inroads, he and my business manager worked out the deal, it was a win-win for both of us, so I said ‘I’m in.’ I’m excited about it. I’ve been in this business for 40 years, so when you get a chance to do something new after being around that long, it’s pretty motivating. I look at this as a new adventure, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

On if he’ll do more shows: “I don’t know if I’ll do any more, I don’t know that I want to do any more. If there’s anything after that it’ll be a bonus. But I’m going to do this show, I’m preparing to do this show, like it’s my last major pay-per-view lead play-by-play.”

On his preparation for the show: “I’m not going to phone anything in. I’m going to be prepared. It may not be as smooth as with the WWE guys, because a lot of those guys, in one period in time, I hired, so obviously I knew them well. These are guys I’ve never watched wrestle in person ever. I’m going to let my instincts take over. I think it has the chance to be a good broadcast. People say, ‘Do you know what’s going to happen in the matches?’ Well, yeah, generally, but the less I know the better my performance is.”

On his WWE departure: “I had 21 years there – it wasn’t like I had a brief little run and everything was over. I had a great run in WWE, I went into the Hall of Fame, there were a lot more good days than bad ones. Was it the ideal way to exit? Probably not. I assumed a level of responsibility in that SummerSlam symposium, I was driving the train and the train got off the tracks, so the decision was made that it wasn’t a good thing and I moved on.”

On if he would go back to WWE: “There’s an old expression in wrestling that says ‘never say never’, when you are in my stage of my life, where I’ve been so blessed with this career, I’m not going to tell you that I’d never go [back] but it’d strictly depend on my role and how much time away from home it would demand. I leave the door open. Would I say definitively no, I would never work for WWE again? Absolutely not. It would necessitate me to give it some thought and it would depend on what the job description was and what they wanted me to do. I’m 62, I’ll be 63 in January, I have to be conscious of jobs.”

On the presence of social media in wrestling: “Social media has become a member of the family, whether you want them to move in or not, they’re there. With WWE or any wrestling organisation, you didn’t want to reveal the outcomes of things … it’s like people that review a movie, they’ll do a review with a thumbs up or thumbs down, but I’ve never read a movie review that revealed the end of the movie. In the wrestling world, the spoilers are a big deal, people love to get the news ahead of time, they rush to their computer to get the scoop, and then they give away the ending of the movie. I don’t find that to be the least bit entertaining or necessary information for me. I’d rather not know the ending of the movie until I see it.”

On if TNA has tried to lure him over since he left WWE: “No. They know I don’t have any desire to get back in the weekly grind of that. Dixie and no-one else has asked about me coming back full-time and that’s why this opportunity [with GFW] was so fit really – it was a one-time deal, a one-off. I like knowing I don’t have any pressure on me beyond that, I can focus on this one big event, really try to nail it without any pressure that I’ve got to do something tomorrow, or next week, or next month.”

On John Cena: “Since we signed John Cena, no-one has outworked John Cena. John Cena’s work ethic is beyond reproach. It’s been phenomenal to see what he does and he’s made himself a brand. John was willing to do things that had not been done, he was willing to take a chance – his wrestling attire was non-traditional, he was a Caucasian rapper and that was unique for wrestling, that was bold. Vince made a good point, Cena did all he could to become the guy. Has anyone else since John Cena...

Backstage Reaction To Vince McMahon's 'Brass Ring' Comments On Steve Austin's Podcast

There are several people backstage in WWE who took Vince McMahon’s “grabbing the brass ring” comments as a joke. While no one would actually say it publicly,

McMahon is the one controlling the pushes of the talent, not the talent themselves. There is also a feeling that McMahon won’t take any blame for WWE’s current problems.

Steve Austin Says He Was Going To Try To Get CM Punk & Vince McMahon To Talk Before UFC Deal

Vince mcmahon Birthdate: 08/24/1945 (age 69) Height: 6'2" Weight: 248 Ib Vince McMahon is credited with being the greate...

Steve Austin addressed the news of CM Punk signing to the UFC on the latest episode of the Steve Austin Show. Austin said that he had considered trying to be the go-between to get Punk to talk with Vince McMahon, similar to how Jim Ross was that person between Austin and Vince, but that it obviously won’t happen now.

“I think he [Punk] rolls with some [UFC] guys and it’s a very big passion of his,” Austin said. “I wish him all the luck in the world, and I know they’ll do a hell of a big buyrate…Match him up with someone his skill level, it’s hard to gauge what his skill level is though.”

He added, “I talked about maybe bridging the gap with CM Punk and Vince, and then he goes and does the deal with UFC. It would appear to me that they’re way further apart than I thought they were. I knew things were bad and I hadn’t talked to CM Punk, so it’s going to be interesting.”

Backstage News On Vince McMahon's Comments, The Ascension's WWE Debut & More News

Vince mcmahon Birthdate: 08/24/1945 (age 69) Height: 6'2" Weight: 248 Ib Vince McMahon is credited with being the greate...

-- As noted earlier here on the website, during Tuesday night's WWE SmackDown television taping, a vignette aired hyping the main roster debut of NXT tag-team The Ascension. The promo aired during the start of the number one contender's match between The Usos and Tyson Kidd & Cesaro.

It's possible that The Ascension will be wrapping up business in NXT at this Thursday's NXT Takeover: R Evolution special, where they are set to work with Hideo Itami and Finn Balor.

The tag-team made a main roster appearance back in September, defeating Los Matadores on an episode of WWE Main Event.

-- The NXT Takeover: R Evolution preview special is scheduled to air on the WWE Network tonight at 10pm EST. The one-hour show, hosted by Renee Young, will preview this Thursday's live special on the WWE Network.

-- While no one wants to admit it publicly, privately there's said to be many WWE talents who considered Vince McMahon's "brass ring" comments to be a joke.

It's no secret that McMahon is the one who ultimately controls the way WWE talents are used and the feeling is that with the way things are set up, there's only so much talents can do to get a push for themselves.

There's said to be a feeling that McMahon won't blame himself for the issues in WWE, but they also know that they can't make more money anywhere else, so they are pretty much stuck making the best of the situation.

-- William Regal recently tweeted that he's back in the United Sates after scouting WWE talent overseas. Regal spent seven days in the UK, four days in Brazil and another five days in India.

-- At the closing bell on Monday, WWE stock was at $11.67 per share. That is down a little over 1% from last Friday.

-- Vince McMahon met WWE fan John Willen of "Crossroads Hospice" prior to the WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view on Sunday night in St. Louis. Willen's one wish to meet a WWE Superstar was Vince McMahon himself. It should also be noted that John got to meet several other WWE Superstars in addition to Vince. As of about a month ago,  the word making the rounds regarding Total Divas was that Vince McMahon did not want anyone on the cast of that reality show to hold the WWE Divas Championship. People who know Vince, however, claim that this is one of those Vince "rules" that could change at any minute. As you know by now, Nikki Bella won the WWE Divas Title at the Survivor Series pay-per-view so it was another case of Vince changing his mind from week to week.

Speaking of Total Divas, it is said that there is a lot of booking frustrations regarding the reality show recently. McMahon reportedly goes through "phases" where he wants the storylines on Total Divas to synch up with the storylines on RAW, however the reality show is taped so far in advance that it has become problematic in that there are communication issues as to what content airs when and people have trouble all being on the same page.

With rumors making the rounds that plans are being discussed for The Rock to face Triple H at WrestleMania 31, there is now speculation that WWE is considering placing that match within a storyline that was dropped for WrestleMania 30.

As you may recall, there was a proposed storyline for WrestleMania 30 where Vince McMahon would have come up against the Authority in a power struggle that would have pitted Steve Austin vs. Triple H at ‘Mania 30. The Rock was viewed as the second choice if Austin wasn’t interested. The idea was dropped for a variety of reasons, including Triple H’s feud with Daniel Bryan and Vince’s desire to be off TV, and wasn’t brought up again.

Now, with the Mr. McMahon returning on RAW and teasing an issue with Triple H and Stephanie, the rumors are flying again that the reported discussions of The Rock vs. Triple H at ‘Mania 31 will be part of a Vince vs. Authority angle.

Lemelson Capital founder Emmanuel Lemelson is of the opinion that the McMahons intend to sell WWE. Lemelson, who manages one of the largest hedge funds in the world, spoke with Benzinga for a new article about WWE and the Network and said that the company is “clearly an acquisition target.”

Lemelson said that he believes the company is in a particularly “special situation,” opining that it has poor fiscal management but excellent creative management. He is of the opinion that a new management team or a company sale will likely play out in the future. He was very positive about the company’s brand, noting their international appeal and saying that the company’s assessed value of $1 billion is flawed as they were likely worth that much before the network’s launch.

He added that the third-quarter results will not likely have much of an impact on stock prices, either positive or negative, and said of the Network, “The OTT network was a brilliant idea, but the timing and execution from a strategic partnership perspective were wrong, The real value of WWE is not the OTT network; it’s the moat around its brand and prospective earnings power under the right fiscal leadership.”

The third quarter results will be revealed tomorrow morning during the traditional quarterly call. It's going to be a VERY interesting morning with all the financials and Network numbers. Look for tons of financial news as we always do with the quarterly conference calls.

Linda McMahon recently spoke about building the WWE with Vince McMahon and more. Here are the highlights…

On building WWE with her husband Vince McMahon: “I’ve been often asked, did you never dream you would be where you are today? And I say no, because you were too busy building, doing, step by step… As the company grew, and all of those different departments began to mesh, we kept looking at great success in the things we were doing, I would step back and say ‘where are you now compared to where you were before you did this thing?”

On how she measures success: “My measure of success is how many jobs and lives we have affected internally, within the company… and having an opportunity to mentor some of the young people who have come along. The first success was about building the company. And then once you’ve built the company, how do you continue to do that? So to have success today is to look around and see that we’re continuing to put smiles on people’s faces.”

PHOTO: Vince McMahon 'Peeking' At WWE's MSG Event!

Triple H tweeted the following on Saturday night:

Report: Vince McMahon Leery Of MMA Fighters In WWE

Partial Source: The Wrestling Observer

UPDATE x 2: As previously reported, UFC fighter Rashad Evans shut down reports that he was interested in going to the WWE, saying he would only consider a career in pro wrestling after he was done with fighting in about four year.

According to sources, Vince McMahon is leery about using former MMA fighters because they are used to huge payoffs for one-off fights. McMahon is also concerned that they wouldn't be able to handle the brutal WWE schedule. In the past, Chael Sonnen, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, and Shayna Baszler have all allegedly had talks with WWE in recent years. At one point, ideas were apparently even suggested for Baszler.

Regarding Sonnen, the report says that his drug test failures and controversies surrounding his name would likely prevent him from ending up in WWE.

UPDATE: Rashad Evans recently spoke about the recent rumors that he may be looking to go to the WWE.

"If I ever did anything like that, it would be after I finished fighting, and I'm not gonna (sic) be done fighting for at least four years. I had a million people asking me if I was retiring for wrestling, but honestly speaking, if I didn't get seriously paid to do it I wouldn't do it. I think it would be disrespectful to my legacy in the UFC if I didn't do a deal that would make sense where I got paid! Besides, that shit is harder on my body than fighting."

ORIGINAL: UFC fighter Rashad Evans has made inquiries about going to WWE. Evans is currently recovering from major knee surgery and was already considering retirement.

According to sources, Evans has spoken with people in the industry about the idea of jumping to WWE. There's no word on whether he's spoken with WWE about the idea yet.

Vince Russo Blogs About Eric Young Being TNA Champion

Vince Russo posted a lengthy blog about current TNA Heavyweight champion Eric Young.  The article is titled "MISTAKE EY FOR NO ONE" and here is one highlight from the blog:

When I first met Eric Young about 12 years ago, to me, he was just another wrestler on the card. The great Dutch Mantel would refer to wrestlers like EY as “good little hands”. They were good workers, dependable, would give you everything they had in the ring, and when you were stuck creatively and had to fill a spot—-you could put their name in it, knowing they would get the job done. But, truthfully, on the surface EY was just “ordinary”. In those early years–-he just wanted to work. No matter what spot you could squeeze him into–-he just wanted to “wrestle”. And, I mean truly wrestle. Actually being on TV was not his priority–-he just wanted to do what he loved to do.
