Jim Ross Blogs On Alberto El Patron To Lucha Underground, Brock Lesnar/Royal Rumble, More

Brock lesnar belt Birthdate: 07/12/1977 (age 37) Height: 6'3" Weight: 286 Ib Brock Lesnar is one of the most dominant indivi...

Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…

On Brock Lesnar and this Sunday’s Royal Rumble PPV: “After all this speculation wouldn’t it be interesting if Lesnar retains Sunday in Philly and then headlines WM31 against either Bryan or Reigns? Lots of balls in the air it seems which kee many fans like me on our toes trying to figure out what’s going on. I’ve found that it’s much easier to simply not over think these matters and just enjoy the events as they happen and then evaluate what one has seen.”

On the “Road to WrestleMania”: “The Rumble has the potential to really jump start the Road to WrestleMania and I’m anxious to enjoy it on the WWE Network. This is a great opportunity for WWE to get people talking about the Royal Rumble which in turn helps promote WM31.”

On Alberto El Patron’s Lucha Underground debut: “Saw Where Alberto El Patron made his debut on Lucha Underground which seems to be a good ‘get’ for the fledging promotion.”

Jim Ross Blogs On TNA Improving & Brock Lesnar Returning At Summerslam

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated his blog and he talked about TNA improving and Brock Lesnar returning at Summerslam:

On Impact improving: TNA Impact was a much better TV show this past Thursday night on Spike but many of the in ring talking segments could have been just as successful and impactful if they had been shorter. Why pro wrestling companies feel that succinct, soundbytes and cutting to the chase are out of style is beyond me. Plus, having a talent like MVP in MULTIPLE segments only waters down the talent. Overexposure used to be a viable concern of all bookers and upper mgmt types, IE Andre, Bruno, JYD, etc, on weekly TV shows, but it doesn't seem as if it is any longer which is fundamentally wrong.

On Brock Lesnar headlining Summerslam: I'd book Lesnar to headline Summer Slam in Los Angeles and build the card around him. Yes, I'm prepared for the onset of knee jerkers who will say that Brock is part time and that part time talents are efficient. I don't concur and think that overexposure is running rampant in the wrestling biz and Lesnar certainly isn't over exposed. The WWE World Champion doesn't need to be on every TV or at every live event. That concept is antiquated.

If some fans feel that this may be too predicable, then perhaps some are over thinking a pro wrestling storyline that makes sense. Making sense when executing a story line is much more important than doing the unpredictably stupid moves to just 'surprise' he audience. Don't get me wrong, I love a good pro wrestling surprise as much as the next fan but NOT at the expense of doing the right thing.

Vince Russo Blogs About Eric Young Being TNA Champion

Vince Russo posted a lengthy blog about current TNA Heavyweight champion Eric Young.  The article is titled "MISTAKE EY FOR NO ONE" and here is one highlight from the blog:

When I first met Eric Young about 12 years ago, to me, he was just another wrestler on the card. The great Dutch Mantel would refer to wrestlers like EY as “good little hands”. They were good workers, dependable, would give you everything they had in the ring, and when you were stuck creatively and had to fill a spot—-you could put their name in it, knowing they would get the job done. But, truthfully, on the surface EY was just “ordinary”. In those early years–-he just wanted to work. No matter what spot you could squeeze him into–-he just wanted to “wrestle”. And, I mean truly wrestle. Actually being on TV was not his priority–-he just wanted to do what he loved to do.

Jim Ross Blogs - Tonight's RAW, Lee Marshall, Podcast

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry. Here are the highlights…

On the death of the territories and developing talent: The erosion of the wrestling territories and the aftermath of their disappearance is starting to rear its ugly head within the business as it relates to the next generation of wrestling stars. Where will the stars of 3, 5, or 10 years and beyond come from for any company producing pro wrestling? The NFL has college football, the NBA has college hoops, MLB has a minor league system dotted with great high school and college players, and the NHL has an organized feeder system to make sure that the continue to add new, talented YOUNG athletes to their mix annually but the business of sports entertainment/pro wrestling has what? The biz has nothing that even closely resembles the in depth level that the other aforementioned entities have notwithstanding what show business has as it looks for talented young actors, etc on a daily basis. While many love to second guess today's pro wrestling creative, often times rightfully so, my biggest concern about the continued growth and overall health of the business lies within where are tomorrow's stars coming? Finding the stars of tomorrow is the wrestling biz's greatest concern. WWE, for example, actively recruiting the amateur wrestling scene is a Godsend but for one to think that will be enough over the long haul and for the generations to come is being highly naive.

Updates on his podcast: Big Ross Report Podcast week.....our Gail Kim interview drops Tuesday PM USA time and it's a great one. Gail is so smart and aware of the business and has some very pointed and intelligent things to say. I have great respect for @gailkimItsMe. I will also be working on the blockbuster Shawn Michaels podcast that has so much info in it that it will be a two parter beginning next week. Shawn's take on Undertaker's Streak ending is fascinating as are his thoughts on CM Punk leaving WWE as many remember that HBK left WWE for approximately four years at one point in his amazing career. These are just two of the many topics we discussed in depth with, arguably, the best to ever perform for a living inside the 20 foot squared circle. Tuesday night I will be speaking with Bill Goldberg for a future Ross Report and if you have questions please Tweet them to me @JRsBBQ and use the hash tag #AskJR. We have some fascinating guests booked well into July for our podcast. For those that continue to ask me about booking WWE talents, I am certainly willing but WWE has to approve such bookings and they are going to get back to me soon with their decision. Ross Report Podcasts are FREE to download via pocdastone.com and via iTunes and at this time we have no plans to expand to multiple podcasts a week but that could change in the future. Thanks for everyone's support of our efforts.

On Tonight's WWE RAW broadcast: RAW should be interesting tonight. I can't see WWE World Champions Daniel Bryan wrestling after taking THREE, Tombstone piledrivers last Monday from Kane but who knows? One thing that I do know is that St. Louis is a terrific wrestling city and the night that we had all the NWA Champions back as our guests there was SO special. St. Louis was also the city that we were in when we found out that my dear friend Brian Pillman passed away the night before. Mixed memories of St. Louis without question but it's a great city nonetheless. If it hadn't been for KMOX radio's coverage of Cardinal baseball with Harry Caray and Jack Buck I may never have been a broadcaster.

On Lee Marshall's passing: Condolences to the family, friends and fans of the late, broadcaster Lee Marshall who passed away over the weekend. Lee was a big time radio voice in Los Angeles among other markets before ne ventured into pro wrestling, a former AWA and WCW broadcaster who was brought to Atlanta by Eric Bischoff who I assume Eric met in AWA while working for Verne Gagne. Lee was also the voice of Tony the Tiger. I never worked with Lee that I recall but mutual friends always spoke highly of him. RIP Lee.

Jim Ross Blogs - Fans Bailing On D-Bryan, Lesnar, More

Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…

On Fans Bailing on Daniel Bryan: Amazing that some 'fans' are jumping off the Daniel Bryan bandwagon now that the highly skilled star has won the WWE World Title and the reason is that they feel that the 'chase' is over and therefore DB has no more challenges ahead of him. Has anyone noticed that Bryan is STILL smaller than virtually everyone he wrestles and is STILL an underdog even as the champion? Keeping a fan favorite in varying levels of jeopardy or peril works....it always has and always will. It has worked in films and in main stream sports since their beginning, which is why they keep score, keep track of the standings, and play for something at the end of the year. If Bryan can continue to amazingly overcome the odds and retain the WWE World Title in non fluke wins, when the time comes for him to lose the championship, to Brock Lesnar would be my suggestion, say at Summerslam or even in November at Survivor Series, DB won't fade away. The best pure wrestler in the world isn't going to disappear unless he is removed from TV or he suddenly forgets how to perform his craft.

On Brock Lesnar: IMO Lesnar should not lose in 2014....at some point become WWE World Champion and then pass the imaginary torch to a young, up and coming star at WM31 ala a Roman Reigns, etc. Just my independent opinion which arguably is no more viable than your's.

On His Fox Sports 1 Project: My narration of a @FoxSports1 feature on the young, boxing son of the late Tommy Morrison airs Monday night on FoxSports1. I will tweet more info when I receive it. Morrison was a distant relative of John Wayne, defeated George Foreman for the WBO Heavyweight Title and died much too young at age 44. The native Oklahoman was also a star high school football player at Jay, Oklahoma and I officiated some of his games when he played there back in the day. It's a really cool feature on Trey Lippe Morrison who's looking to impact the heavyweight division in the world of boxing.

On His Podcasts: This week's Ross Report podcast is going great guns with guest @TheJimCornette as we essentially solve all the ills of today's pro wrestling genre. Seriously, it's one of the best discussions that I have ever participated in regarding the business that many of us still embrace. I hope you will check it out at podcastone.com or via iTunes. Next Tuesday pm our conversation with the amazingly talented and beautiful Gail Kim drops and we explore Gail's career, the major differences in working in WWE vs. Impact Wrestling, Gail's overall take on women in wrestling, her future, the delicate balancing of her career and her marriage to celeb chef Robert Irvine of the Food Network and much more. Gail is dead on honest about every topic and her candor was extremely refreshing. This past Tuesday night I talked for almost two hours with Shawn Michaels and it was the most compelling interview that I've done to date as HBK shares what it was like to to sitting at the Gorilla Position at WM30 specifically when the Undertaker's Streak abruptly and shockingly ended. It's a perspective that can't be replicated and that Ross Report Podcast is excited to premier on Tuesday May 6. Shawn's openness and straight talk makes this one of the most riveting and informative podcasts ever. This week I also confirmed Lance Storm and MVP for future Ross Report Podcasts as we keep cranking them out and hope that we can continue to build our audience by producing and recording some stout shows.

Jim Ross Blogs - Sting's Final Match?, Renee Young/ESPN

Jim Ross has released a new blog post on JRSBARBQ.com. JR announced some of his upcoming interview guests for his podcast, some new dates for his live one man show, and also the rumors of Sting signing with WWE. Below are some highlights.

Ross on upcoming guests for his podcast: "We have booked interviews in the immediate future with Shawn Michaels, Bill Goldberg, ESPN's Michelle Beadle, Eric Bischoff, Ted DiBiase, Cowboy Bill Watts and Tony Schiavone among others. Looking forward to also having Stan Hansen, Taz, MVP and many others from the pro wrestling world on the show sooner than later. We also plan on visiting with Rock 'n Roll Hall of Famer ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons down the road."

On plans for his live show Ringside: An Evening with Jim Ross: "Several new RINGSIDE: An Evening with Jim Ross events are being added to the calendar as the year progresses. Live Nation is really being aggressive in scheduling yours truly for more events. As soon as more dates are finalized, I will let you know but LA in August (insert your own joke here) and a show in Chicago are definitely on the drawing board."

Ross on the rumors of ESPN being interested in Renee Young: "Where did the info come from that ESPN was interested in Renee Young? Not saying it's true or not but it certainly made the rounds quickly within the IWC. Renee is a talented, young woman, without question, and I wish her the best no matter what she decides to do long term with her career. Renee has skills, a great look and isn't a high maintenance talent but is easy to produce."

Ross on what Sting's one match with WWE should be if he signs: "Getting tons of questions regarding Sting signing with WWE of which I don't know the answer and if I did and was asked to keep it confidential I would, for the record. However, I see it as a no brainer for WWE to sign Sting and to begin immediately in monetizing his intellectual property. WWE owns virtually every minute of video tape that Sting has appeared on except his work in TNA. Some of the UWF content and early WCW matches are particularly outstanding. It's a match made in grappling heaven even if Sting never wrestles in WWE. In my perfect, booking world, which actually doesn't exist and is an oxymoronic statement, Sting would have one match…a retirement match at WM31 against a suitable villain even though some will lobby for that retirement match opposition to be Undertaker. A smaller, athletic young talent who needs the "rub" would arguably be ideal."

Jim Ross Blogs - The WWE Network, Andre Battle ...

Jim Ross updated his blog on JRSBARBQ.com. Below are some highlights.Ross on who WWE should invest in: "WWE is smart to invest in educated, athletic, young people with big personalities who, hopefully, grew up watching some TV Wrestling. Brock [Lesnar] was not a pro wrestling fan when he signed with WWE but he burned through the pro wrestling drills in OVW like the beast that he is and was as natural as anyone we ever signed."Ross on feedback of the WWE Network: "Amazing feedback from fa...

Time Limit Draws In Wrestling: "Interesting feedback from a past Podcast topic regarding why TV Wrestling Companies don't utilize time limits or draws from time to time. Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…On Paul Bearer's WWE Hall Of Fame Induction: "Wonderful to hear that my old pal Paul Bearer also known as Percy Pringle was announced in Chicago as going into this year's class of the WWE Hall of Fame. Jim Ross Blogs - Hogans WWE Return, Lesnar/Tak...

Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…

On Lesnar vs. Taker: The rumblings of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar at WM30 was made official on RAW or that's what I got out of it. I think that these two will exceed most fan's expectations at WM30. Not sure I can tell you why but it's merely a gut feeling that I have. I think that they keep it basic, physical and at an old school pace which isn't plodding but one that fans can process and 'feel' what they are seeing.

On Hogan's Return: Great pop for Hulk Hogan and did you notice that WWE gave Hulk his spotlight uninterruptedly and did not align him with anyone nor did they have anyone confront Hogan…..yet. Good to see Hulk back on WWE airwaves. Hogan was more 'over' in 5 minutes on WWE TV than he ever was on TNA Impact.

On Daniel Bryan: Daniel Bryan wants HHH at WM30 but will that keep or make Bryan's fans happy? Likely not. WWE has a golden opportunity to provide Bryan and his fans a 'magical moment' in the Mercedes Benz Super Dome come WM30. Time will tell if that happens. It seems too obvious that it should happen for it to not occur.

Mick Foley Blogs - RAW, Daniel Bryan/WWE, Under...

The following are highlights of a new blog on the official Facebook page of WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley:

On Monday's RAW and Undertaker's return: "About that RAW prediction? That "greatest RAW of the year" prediction? Well, it turns out I was wrong about that. As cool as it was to see The Undertaker, nonetheless, I was completely wrong."

"Maybe it will all come together in the end. We'll see. I'll end this piece with some words from my post earlier today - a paragraph which apparently didn't make much of a difference in the course of events."

On WWE's usage of Daniel Bryan: "But I think WWE needs to accept (PLEASE listen to me here, any WWE writer, exec, or power in charge) that the ability to turn the tide hinges on finding a way to make Daniel Bryan part of that main event. For me, personally, as a wrestler, a good feud was just as important as a title shot. But the WWE Universe has been on a personal journey with Daniel Bryan, and from the 1,000's of messages I've read, not a single member of that Universe will feel that their journey is complete without Daniel getting a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania. PLEASE forget about the idea of Daniel Bryan vs Triple H, or Daniel Bryan vs Kane at Mania. They are both potentially great match-ups at a later time - but not for Mania. There are times when you really do need to give the people what they want...and this is one of them."

Jim Ross Blogs On Last Nights Elimination Cham...

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, here are the highlights…On Reaction to His Elimination Chamber Opinions: Some rowdy, Keyboard Warriors took me to the woodshed on Twitter @JRsBBQ Sunday night because many did not personally approve of the creative that ended the Elimination Chamber match. I guess they missed the announcement that I'm no longer employed by WWE and have zero to do with anything remotely touching creative or what fans see on TV. I did discover that ther...

Jim Ross has updated the blog section of his official website. Here are highlights:On the WWE Hall of Fame: "Rumor mills are working OT regarding as to who will be the next inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. I think that it's cool that the HOF induction ceremony will air live, as I understand it, on the WWE Network. Hopefully the live audience will mind their manners and not feel compelled to display their defiance and disrupt the show for any reason. Cheering and classy displays of support...
