Major Backstage Update - The Rock At Tonight's WWE Royal Rumble PPV?, Possible **SPOILERS**

Source: The Wrestling Observer

As reported yesterday, The Rock posted a picture to Instagram of him being in Philadelphia, PA. This led to speculation that the Great One will be appearing at the Royal Rumble tonight. One source notes that The Rock will in fact be appearing at the pay-per-view event.

There are no details on what The Rock will be doing at this time. While there were rumors of him facing Rusev at WrestleMania (based on their interaction on RAW late last year), the source says this is not in the current plans for the show. Another source notes that its possible The Rock could even win the Royal Rumble match if they are planning to do a Rock vs. Brock match at WrestleMania 31.

More as we get it.

Major Backstage Update On The Undertaker At WrestleMania 31 + A Hall Of Fame Induction?, More

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

As noted recently, WWE painted up some of their giant WrestleMania 31-promotional tour buses with The Undertaker, which is said to be considered a strong sign that he will be working the show in some form.

As of right now, the booking plan is to have The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania, as long as Undertaker gives word that he is willing to wrestle, which he has not done yet.

There's also a chance that he will be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame next year, if he is indeed done with his in-ring career, although there has been talk for years that he would retire at Cowboys Stadium -- which is the site of WrestleMania 32 -- since it will likely set the all-time attendance record.

Regardless, expect Undertaker involved in some form or fashion during WrestleMania 31 weekend, as he is under a seven-figure downside guarantee contract, and WWE wants to justify the deal.

Backstage News On The Major Script Changes At Last Night's WWE RAW Broadcast, Sting Update, More

Sting wwe raw wcw Birthdate: 03/20/1955 (age 59) Height: 6'2" Weight: 250 Ib Sting is best known for his tenure in World Cha...

Partial Source: The Wrestling Observer

UPDATE x 5: There were many last-minute decisions made to the script for RAW last night. At one point on the RAW pre-show, it was revealed that John Cena would name the new RAW General Manager during the broadcast. However, WWE changed their minds at the last minute and announced the Board of Directors would make the announcement.

At the end of the episode, the Anonymous RAW General Manager made his (or her) return. The reason for this is because they are still debating  on who they want to play the full-time role and it hadn't been decided as of yesterday.

Also, the original plans called for Stung to appear either before or after the Divas Elimination tag-team match. Obviously, those plans changed and he was involved in the main event instead.

UPDATE x 4: Sting recently signed a performers contract with WWE. While the length of the agreement and specific details are not yet known, the deal is likely structured similar to Brock Lesnar's, where he is getting paid a lot and is only required to make limited appearances.

While he almost certainly won't be working live events, the feeling is that he will be wrestling more than just "one more match."

As noted earlier, WWE reached out to Sting last Thursday to set up his Survivor Series appearance.

Also read: Backstage News On Why Sting Debuted Last Night At The WWE Survivor Series Pay-Per-View Event

UPDATE x 3: Following Sting's WWE debut at Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view, where he gave Triple H a Scorpion Death Drop and cost Team Authority their jobs, there's already some buzz behind the scenes that the two legends will square off at WrestleMania 31.

Just a few weeks ago, The Rock and Triple H were teasing a WrestleMania match at the SmackDown 15th Anniversary special. With The Rock's very busy schedule shooting movies, it seems unlikely that he'll be getting back in the ring next March. WWE kicking off a feud between Sting & Triple H seems to support the notion that The Rock won't be available during WrestleMania season.

While The Undertaker's in-ring future is still unknown, Sting working with Triple H could be a sign that Taker has yet to commit to wrestling at WrestleMania 31.

UPDATE x 2: In an update from our earlier report (see below), the decision to bring in Sting wasn’t made until Thursday. As previously reported, WWE wanted to deliver on a surprise and also wanted to push the “anything can happen” on the WWE Network idea.

Sting is not expected to be at RAW or SmackDown this week. The plan was for him to make the pay-per-view appearance and then head back home to California. He may have pre-taped a segment for tonight, but nothing is confirmed.

In regards to who he may wrestle, the obvious pick seems to be Triple H due to their interaction last night. The plan as of Friday was that Sting will wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31. Of course, he could also wrestle Triple H at the Royal Rumble as a sort of introduction to fans not familiar with him.

UPDATE: WWE’s plan for Survivor Series last night was to push the WWE Network and show that anything can happen in WWE and anyone can show up on the Network. This is why Sting finally appeared on screen and why WWE announced both Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt at TLC and the Austin/Vince interview next week.

It’s believed that Sting also showed up to help promote WWE 2K15, which was released not long before the PPV happened. Finally, it’s possible that WWE added Sting’s name into the script earlier in the show (it was previously reported as happening right before or right after the Divas elimination match) in order to keep his main event appearance a secret.

ORIGINAL: As many of you know by now, Sting officially made his debut at the WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view on Sunday night.

According to sources, WWE flew Sting into Kansas, MO from Dallas, TX on Sunday morning as they wanted to hide him from fans who were waiting at the airport to meet WWE Superstars. The company then had a limo waiting for him in Kansas City, MO and drove him to St. Louis for the pay-per-view. He was kept hidden backstage during the afternoon and evening hours.

Additionally, Sting wasn't notified that he'd be appearing at Survivor Series until late last week. WWE officials called him on Wednesday or Thursday and told him he was needed for the pay-per-view. He was promoting WWE 2K15 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of last week and was unaware at that point that he'd be making his debut at Survivor Series.

The original plans called for Stung to appear either before or after the Divas Elimination tag-team match. Obviously, those plans changed and he was involved in the main event instead.

As of last word, Sting was not expected to appear at...

As previously reported,  Ric Flair’s recent health issues and condition were a topic of discussion backstage within both WWE and TNA. As you know, Flair underwent surgery a couple of weeks ago that caused him to be pulled from an appearance on the NXT Takeover: Fatal Four-Way show. According to sources, Flair was in a hospital in Gwinnett County, Georgia from September 8th until the 18th.

A source notes that Flair was initially admitted for surgery due to a hernia. However, he began suffering from significant intestinal problems due to his prescribed medications and the surgery and thus wasn’t able to keep any food down. Flair was getting nutrients via an IV bag and underwent intestinal surgery on September 16th. Flair has dropped a lot of weight and because of the surgeries, he won’t be able to do any training for about another month.

A source adds that Flair recovered nicely after intestinal surgery and was released from the hospital two days ahead of schedule.

-- As previously reported, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are reportedly in a “power struggle” with WWE CFO George Barrios and Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer Michelle Wilson. The topic is a hot one in terms of conversation backstage.

Barrios and Wilson were the two key executives in charge of the WWE Network launch and securing the company’s new television deal. As we know by now, neither of them were close to as successful as the company hoped for.

-- As noted earlier here on the website, Randy Orton’s deal is now such that he is not working full-time on the road. According to sources, Orton’s deal–which isn’t specified if it is an new deal or a restructuring of his current one–only calls for him to work limited weekend dates.

Major Update - Big WWE Survivor Series Surprises Planned -- **SPOILERS** Inside

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Here is another updated report on the rumors and possible surprises that have been speculated online for WWE Survivor Series.

Per the report, as many likely expected, Jericho’s tweet earlier was basically him trolling fans on the internet. Jericho will not be appearing at the PPV, and he is currently set for a Fozzy show tonight in Des Moines, Iowa.

Also read: ?**SPOILER** Update - 3 Names Possible For The WWE Survivor Series Psy-Per-View

It seems some fans actually believed Punk referencing Paul Heyman on Twitter earlier believed it meant Punk could make a return to the WWE tonight. The latest report confirms Punk will not be making a comeback tonight. Punk is reportedly focusing on his life post-wrestling. A sourcce says he has been training extensively in MMA under the Gracies in California.

In addition, Roman Reigns has reportedly flown from Reno, Nevada for an autograph signing to St. Louis, Missouri. So he is now in town for the event. However, an earlier report indicated he is not confirmed to make an appearance for the event. He is in town thgh.

ORIGINAL: As previously reported, Sting, Roman Reigns, and Randy Orton have all been rumored to be in attendance for tonight’s Survivor Series events. However, there have been conflicting reports regarding whether the Superstars would definitively appear or not.

There could be even one or two more surprises for the event. These surprises could be in addition to the aforementioned three wrestlers. The issue is a source notes that the WWE might want to hold these surprises back because if Sting and Orton appear tonight, that would be enough for the show. Anything further would potentially be perceived as overkill.

In other words, the source suggests more surprises are planned…but are also being planned to get held back. Any additional surprises besides say Sting and Orton would take away from the importance of their appearance.

A Major TNA Announcement Reportedly Coming This Wednesday - Details Inside Here

Partial Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

UPDATE x 2: Over the last few days, several people within TNA were told to expect a major announcement on Wednesday of this week. That is the same day that iMPACT! will end its run on SpikeTV. Of course, these deadlines have been coming and going since October so take this for what it's worth. Many are under the impression that an announcement will be made on Wednesday ........ for real this time. We shall see.

UPDATE: We have confirmed with a few sources inside TNA that the company will in fact move away from Spike and will air on a new programming partner as of January. The new TV deal is said to be “extremly close” to done if it isn’t signed already. The word is that it will be a multi-year deal and not a short-term contract.

The new TV partner is said to be, as previously reported, a lesser-known network and may (though this is not confirmed) be the recently-rumored Destination America which is part of Discovery Communications. It is available in slightly more than half the country. The deal is expected to bring in less money at first, but will allow them to have more opportunities. They will be able to have more than just iMPACT! on the network and in fact will be that new partner’s biggest brand. This will allow them to help possibly grow a new network or at least allows them to “start again,” which the site reports is their plan once new shows begin in January.

A source notes that the break with Spike TV is amicable and the December episodes are, as of this point, still scheduled to air.

ORIGINAL: TNA appears to be officially done with Spike TV. MMA reporter Jeremy Botter spoke with Spike officials at last night’s Bellator 131 and posted the following:

TNA sources have indicated that their new TV deal will be announced this week and that this Wednesday’s episode of iMPACT! will be the final one on Spike. This means that the “Best Of” episodes that were planned to run through the end of the year would not actually air on Spike. It is possible that TNA was waiting for their Spike episodes to finish up before announcing their next TV home.

The company still has dates held at the Manhattan Center in New York City for January 6th through the 8th.

Report: Major Backstage Heat on Cesaro?

John cena bioraphy Birthdate: 04/23/1977 (age 37) Height: 6'1" Weight: 251 Ib Cena is known as "the face of the WWE for a lon...

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is an interesting article regarding why Cesaro hasn't been pushed much on WWE TV recently, considering that he lost to Dolph Ziggler two falls to none at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view this past Sunday. Normally, two out of three falls matches tend to go to a third fall.

According to Dave Meltzer, he says that he has a idea on what caused Cesaro to have backstage heat with WWE Officials. He believes that it was this interview that Cesaro did with a UK-based website that reportedly raised a few eyebrows:

Also read: WWE Superstar Cesaro: 'I'm sick of seeing John Cena against Randy Orton for the 500th time'

"It is a new era of guys. It’s a new generation, and it’s a lot of fun to watch that because there are fresh match-ups. I mean, I’m sick of seeing John Cena against Randy Orton for the 500th time. It’s great that we have some new, young guys that can come out and provide absolutely great match-ups and for the fans there are fresh, exciting matches and things to watch."

Ironically at the same time, Orton tweeted about his opinion regarding WWE's stance on his merchandise. Orton was livid that WWE did not release any new merchandise for “The Viper,” particularly a potential ‘RKO Outta Nowhere’ shirt. Orton would even go on to take shots at WWE for having an abundance of John Cena merchandise.

Meltzer wrote that the reason why Orton wasn't punished by management is because he's "bulletproof." In addition, he also noted that WWE may be waiting to add such merchandise for Orton because he is not a full-fledged face just yet.Typically, the merchandise of a heel wrestlers don't sell nearly as well compared to babyface wrestlers. Though, with Orton becoming more and more of a tweener, who will likely turn on Seth Rollins and The Authority, new merchandise for Orton may coming its way very soon.

Backstage News & Major Unrest Rampant In The TNA Locker Room?, Details Inside Here

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Also read: Backstage News - ?TNA Talents Now Being Allowed To Take More Indy Bookings - Details

According to sources, there is a lot of unrest going on in the TNA locker room at the moment. As previously reported, the promotion is basically done with events for the year; they have Bound for Glory, which doesn’t have a lot of the undercard booked, and then nothing until the next taping in January.

While everyone is allowed to take independent bookings right now, they are not allowed to appear on any PPV, iPPV or DVDs for other promotions, which takes away from higher-paying shows like Ring of Honor’s iPPVs. ROH also has their roster spots filled at the moment and there isn’t a lot of interest from the promotion toward most of the TNA roster. Only Eddie Edwards and Samoa Joe are guaranteed ROH dates if they want any.

Most of the talent has made overtures to Jeff Jarrett’s GFW, but that promotion’s only show thus far is the New Japan’s Tokyo Dome PPV which is out of the question. Lucha Underground is TV only and wants exclusivity contacts while PWG only does DVD-taped shows. That leaves promotions like PWS and FWE and local events until TNA announces their new shows next year and decides who is staying with the promotion.

Major Changes Made To The TNA Bound For Glory PPV - Lots Of Backstage News Inside Here

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

One of the original plans for TNA Bound for Glory was to have Team 3D vs. The Wolves at the pay-per-view for the tag titles. The Wolves were taken off the event and replaced by Tommy Dreamer and Abyss.

Also read: Team 3D’s TNA Bound For Glory Match Was Reportedly A Last-Minute Decision - Backstage News

Abyss was originally going to face Bram, but bookers decided to make the change since Team 3D was in the country for the Hall of Fame ceremony. Bram was also pulled from the show.

Samoa Joe vs. Low Ki was the original X-Division title match. Kaz Hayashi from Wrestle-1 was added to the match because Joe is working through an injury, and Hayashi would be able to compensate for any issues in the match if need be.

The original plan was for MVP vs. Ryota Hama, which was changed to MVP vs. Kazma Sakamoto. Hama will now face Ethan Carter III. This was done to add more TNA vs. Wrestle-1 matches for the event.

Some Wrestle-1 talents were not booked for the event because Wrestle-1 did not want to alienate American PPV buyers by making it look like a total Wrestle-1 event.

The Very Latest On John Cena Missing RAW This Monday And A Major Possible **SPOILER**

John Cena's name has been removed from advertisements for WWE RAW the following night after Battleground (this Monday). Up until a few days ago, Cena was still advertised for the show, but he will not be there because he will be reporting to the set of the film Trainwreck. There is a belief backstage that this could be a sign of Cena dropping the title on Sunday at Battleground. These same backstage people believe that Roman Reigns is the next man up as WWE needs to "pull the trigger" on him and let him carry the title .... at least briefly. Some feel it's simply too early to do that.

Also read: John Cena Pulled From Monday's Raw - Title Change At Battleground?

Currently, Brock Lesnar is scheduled to return to WWE RAW this Monday. As previously reported, some advertisements for a main event match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar have leaked for SummerSlam this year. Of course, they could easily change course and do Reigns vs. Lesnar but that was not the original plan.

Report - Major Issues Between Rey Mysterio & WWE

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Last week it was reported that Vince McMahon renewed Rey Mysterio's WWE deal for one year. According to that story, Rey's contract was set to expire, but WWE contracts may be frozen in the event of an injury. Since Mysterio has missed so much time during the course of his deal due to injuries, word was that WWE felt that Mysterio "owed them time" and he was renewed through May of 2015.

Also read: ?Report: Rey Mysterio's WWE Contract Renewed

According to sources, there is more to the situation than what it already out. While there are not a lot of details at this time, there is a potential legal issue that has not played out. Mysterio was looking at leaving with the expiration of his contract, but then McMahon renewed the deal. WWE has Mysterio on the injured list, and there has been no talk about his potential return.

Report: Major WWE NXT Changes Planned - Details

Source: The Wrestling Observer

There have been discussions in WWE on having NXT tape their show bi-weekly instead of monthly due to the show's growing popularity on the WWE Network.

WWE officials are said to be very happy with how NXT has been as of late, but the change in the taping schedule would allow them to give the show more fresh content regularly. It would also make it easier for the WWE to insert segments such as JBL and Paige's backstage interaction.

Major Backstage Update - Goldberg Returning To WWE?

Source: The Wrestling Observer

As we reported over the last few days, WWE is planning to sign Bill Goldberg to a deal well before WrestleMania 31. Their plan is to sign Goldberg to be used in the WWE 2K15 video game, which is due out in the fall.

The plan is said to be similar to what WWE did with Ultimate Warrior last year. Per a source, WWE wants to promote the signing at SummerSlam and continue to market and build the deal all the way until WrestleMania 31, which could use Goldberg for a match or a Hall of Fame Induction.

Major Backstage Update - The End Of Undertaker's Streak

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

UPDATE: Despite reports to the contrary, it was not Undertaker's decision to end his legendary undefeated streak at WrestleMania XXX this year. The belief, however, is that if he didn't want to end the streak, he could have put up a fight and it probably wouldn't have happened. Regardless, Vince McMahon made the call to have Brock Lesnar win the match.

Another interesting note is that the original plan for the match was for The Undertaker to go over, however a few days before the show, McMahon changed his mind. The feeling is that McMahon knew of Undertaker's physical condition and the chance that this was going to be his last match, and decided that if the streak was ever going to be broken, it was now or never.

As far as Undertaker's reaction, as previously reported, there are conflicting reports. One friend of his said that he had to be talked into it, while another person who would likely know, said that he didn't argue the decision at all. 'Taker also has enough backstage power that if he didn't want the streak to end, it likely wouldn't have been done.

ORIGINAL: It is said that there were several people who were displeased backstage about the decision to have The Undertaker lose to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, but were not able (and won't) say anything publicly about it.

The decision to end the streak was reportedly made by Vince McMahon, not The Undertaker. There are some who were "in the know" who say that Vince had to talk Undertaker into it, while others say he went along with it without argument.

Regarding who knew ahead of time that the streak was ending, it is certain that Vince McMahon, Brock Lesnar, Undertaker and Paul Heyman knew, and possibly Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Beyond that, it is difficult to say. No finish was listed on the script but that isn't unusual and it wasn't the only one for the pay-per-view. None of the agents reportedly knew.

Those who saw Undertaker backstage at RAW said that he had a heavy limp and looked to be "in rough shape."

As previously reported, WWE referee Chad Patton -- who served as the official for the Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania XXX -- was not informed ahead of time that Lesnar was going to be defeating Undertaker during the bout. There is, however, some who feel that Undertaker or Lesnar may have tipped him off while they were actually in the ring.

Prior to the match, Patton was pulled aside and told to count to three, as if the match were a shoot, if either guy had their shoulders pinned to the mat. He was told that the only exception would be if Undertaker applied his "Hell's Gate" submission, to not count Undertaker's shoulders down while doing that particular move.

Update: Major DGUSA WrestleMania Weekend Issues - Details

UPDATE: Gabe Sapolsky posted the following update…

"OFFICIAL STATEMENT: It is with deep regret that DGUSA must inform our audience of the unfortunate fact Dragon Gate (Japan) talent will not be able to perform on WrestleMania weekend shows. We are in the process of adjusting the lineups and guarantee we will make sure we deliver to you nothing less than top quality shows this coming weekend, as has become our reputation. We will have announcements shortly.

We have already announced the 1st time ever matchup pitting Masato Tanaka against Chris Hero on the Friday night DGUSA show. As the entire pro wrestling world converges on New Orleans this week, the last thing our audience wants to hear or read about is promotional drama. We know you have practically unlimited choices this coming week, and we are going to make sure all those who chose and choose to support DGUSA are rewarded with the best experience we can possibly provide.

DGUSA's mission has always been to earn our fans one at a time. We continue to strive to do so, and thank you for your support during the most exciting week of the year to be a pro wrestling fan!"

ORIGINAL: Gabe Sapolsky posted the following on his Facebook this evening…

"We apologize, but it looks like there will not be Dragon Gate talent on the shows next weekend. This has been an ongoing situation for a while. It is not between us and Dragoon Gate. Our relationship remains strong and DGUSA will continue and will feature Dragon Gate talent in the future. This has been a daily thing where every day we think something was about to break. Now the clock has run out. We owe you a complete explanation and will have that on Monday.

In the meantime, we know you only care about two things- what the lineups are going to be and how we will make this up to you. We took the first step as a precaution by booking Masato Tanaka to face Chris Hero on the Friday night DGUSA show. We need to thank Highspots for making this possible. We are now finalizing the rest. We will have word to you on Monday.

I personally apologize and am very embarrassed by this entire situation. As an organization, we deeply apologize. The bottom line is that we will rebound and we will have amazing shows in New Orleans with a talented, exciting and dynamic roster. We will give you a great experience and present events that you will always remember fondly.

We appreciate and value your patience. We would have said more earlier, but this is something where we literally thought there would be a resolution and announcement on a daily basis. I realize this is not a suitable explanation for some of you and will accept the criticism and try to make it right. It is the best we can do right at this moment.

We'll give you the entire story on Monday when we have everything situated. I will be around for all your questions and comments on Twitter and here on Facebook after we release the lineups and explain what happened. Thank you for all your support and we will make this right on the biggest weekend of the year."
